Hi. I've been a user of Sony Ericsson phones for a few years now (started with T610!) and am considering getting a K850, but I just need to clear a couple of things up before I commit. My last two phones have been Walkman phones (w800 and W880) and I was considering getting w960, but recently found out that the K850 has essentially the same music player (not bothered about touchscreen), but with the added bonus of a decent camera. But what I want to know is will I be able to use an 8gb micro SD card for storing music on? I know it is compatible with 4gb but just want to make sure I can use an 8gb card in it.

Yeah I know what you mean. 4gb M2 slows my w880 down a bit, but its acceptable. I'm hoping the more powerful software in the k850 will be able to handle 8gb.

Hello, I've got an 8GB mciroSDHC in my K850 - it's compatible alright, it's just that it makes the media player so slow it's unusable. It can literally take a minute or two to navigate to a specific song. Using the file manager or playlist is fine. Along with the HGE-100 I bought (only near useless software available for it), the 8GB has been a waste of money – combined, that’s £100 down the drain, thanks SE.

Its not sounding like a good outlook. You say that file manager works fine, do you mean that you can choose to play music in the music player from the file manager? Because thats what i do with my w880 now anyway (its the only way to make the songs play in order for some reason) so that wont bother me. Any thoughts from anyone else?

Really? No bigger than 2gb? As I said earlier I'm using a 4gb m2 on my w880 and that works fine with negligable slow down. Surely the more powerful k850 can handle at least 4gb?

Wait for k850i's newer firmware to come out then you guys try out and give comment. The phone is not yet optimised. (Just ike the PSP's initial release. It can only handle 4Gb max but now it can handle 8Gb)

Do you know when the new firmware will be released? I'm not due to upgrade til end of February anyway so hopefully it will be sorted by then. And just to clarify, my 4gb m2 should be ok in the k850 for the time being?

You can play the music from the file manager (although not using the Media Player) OK. You don't get the full functionality this way though. I've set up Playlist for albums I most freq use which helps, but defeats the point of having a large card with so much choice. It is good is you have movies as it can hold a load. I have about 1600 song & 4 films and plenty of space for pictures.

I'm hoping the rumored latest FW will sort this out - Nokia did a great job on the N800 which had similar issues until a revised FW so I know it can be done.
