im looking for a relatively safe and free way to unlock or debrand my w580i myself... its currently locked to the rogers network... is there any way around it??

u can use setool patchfile for ree unlock, if u have access to a box. only patchfile solutions are for free, but those arent the best, cos after fw upgrade or simple flash it will be locked again. ask around in your mobile shops in your near, who could make a direct unlcock for a good price.

no i wont be flashing or upgrading fw soon... i just need it unlocked so i can use ringtones and stuff like that... have pictures when ppl call me and stuff... and use the lightshow affect for diff ppl when they call, like on my s500i

in order to use customized ringtones, wallpaper, etc. you just need to debrand it, not unlock it. if you unlock it, you will be able to use your phone on every operator.
