JRR Tolkien by a mile. Wrote the benchmark for fantasy genre books with Lord of the Rings, which I don't think has been bettered by anyone, plus written the delightful Hobbit, and the sometimes hard-going but excellent Silmarillion amongst other writings

I used to be a good fan of Sydney Sheldin before Dan Brown took me by storm and got all my intrest. I like the way at which he raises suspense in his books. Talk about the book angels and demons, It is at its best.

I used to read alot of detective novels when I was young such as Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle and Hercule Poirot/Miss Marple by Agatha Christie.

More recently I've started reading Adam Dalgliesh novels by P.D. James. I've read The Murder Room, Devices and Desires, Original Sin, A Taste for Death and also Children of Men which has just been translated to the big screen. Over Christmas I read Clive Cussler's: The Chase, and loved it, I'll look for more novels by him soon.

ATM I'm reading Jonathon Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke, all 782 pages of it! I'm not really a fan of fantasy books, that's why I've never bothered with the Narnia/LOTR/Harry Potter series, but I'm giving this one a go. So far it's good.

My favourite author would have to be P.D. James.
