Just Checked a few News Articles, and came across this - its BIG News, and if it goes ahead - could mean some exciting things!

Ericsson are potential buyers for Motorolas Mobile Division!

What do you think, as the article says - it would take Sony Ericsson's share of the World Market to 22% - a nice healthy stake - and it means it will acquire rights to MotoRola's patents and technologies!

Well, well - roll on 3GSM and 2008!

No to motorola UI no to LJ, I prefer A200 more. all Ericsson needs was imho the communication facilities, networks, US market penetration and a little bit touch on design i hate RAZRs and Rizrs by the way

No one would be better than SonyEricsson to buy Motorola
because Motorola just bought 50% of UIQ shares , and SE had the other half
Also we have to mention that new SonyEricsson CEO was managing Motorola
beside SonyEricsson would be happy to make some concept mobiles on other nomination , what would be better for her than a strong name like Motorola ?
SE would pay alot to capture it

Fair point PK, it was an inventive phone.

But, personal opinion, i think it looks horrible. I've never liked the look of one of there phones. But thats just my personal opinion. But if they work with , that might be a different story.

Ummm... I think that article said Ericsson not SE was contemplating the purchase. Would that mean Ericsson would want to dissolve the SE partnership and go it alone with Moto technology? I hope not!

Ericsson make mobile networks, are they hoping to take on Moto's network infrastucture business? That would make more sense.

The assumption is that SE's market share would rise to 22%. Not likely.
Moto's market share is in freefall - a 38% drop in sales is dramatic! - while SE's is rising but for how long? To rise further they would need to take market share from Nokia's low-end range, or from Samsung who make both CDMA and GSM handsets, or attract Motorola's customers; I wonder which is more likely?

Moto and SE are in pretty much the same market so the purchase makes no economic sense. The only thing Moto has of use to SE is US market dominance IMO. But look how quick that can change with 1 model like the iPhone. You'd only need one or two very innovative models using a recognised brand name like SONY or PlayStation or VAIO to make a big impact.

I just can't see a buyout happening I'm afraid.
