I'm away on business and have accidentally left my charger at home. Can I use another S.E. charger with the phone, despite the CST-60 charger that is available to me looking different? The connector is the same but the main block looks different to my P1i charger. Any advice greatly appreciated as I don't want to ruin my battery!

You should be fine with using another

charger with your P1i. The different shape and size is probly down to the charger being from an older phone as the chargers supplied with older

phones have a slightly larger and diffent shaped plug / transformer compared the the newer, smaller fastport chargers.
Hope this helps

If anything this other charger I've been given is smaller than the one from my P1i! I just want to make sure that the voltage and other gubbins are the same before I plug it in...

Well as long as it is on official Sony Ericsson fastport charger I'm pretty sure it should work.
My CST-60 outputs 4.9 volts at 450 milli-amps which I use for

phones and also my

bt headset. This should be the same output as the charger you are considering using as afaik all fastport chargers have the same output.

The CST-60 is the charger I'm considering using but it isn't the same as the P1i charger. The P1i has a 3.6v battery does it not, why would a 4.9v charger be ok?

I know you have found your answer now, but just for refrence:
The charger I mentioned the output of was supplied with a k750. The BST-37 battery supplied with the k750 has a voltage of 3.6v
So for some reason it appears voltages do not need to be the same when charging the battery.

Hi ... i use 3 different chargers for my P1i,my old W800i charger ,Sony Ericsson CMT-60 Micro Travel Charger and P1i's charger, not talking about usb charging. the shape of the plug has more to do with the desk stand you get with the phone, there is limited place to connect both usb and charger(even that my W800i plug shape is exactly the same ), that the battery is 3,6v and the charger is higher it is normal with chargers, they always have a bit higher voltage then the battery they charge.

foundout why all are around 4,9-5v
has to do with the USB charging ... the voltage output from usb is 5v,so all phones that can be charged by usb can handle 5v too!
from wikipedia:
"The USB specification provides a 5 V (volts) supply on a single wire from which connected USB devices may draw power. The specification provides for no more than 5.25 V and no less than 4.75 V (5 V±5%) between the positive and negative bus power lines.[10] Initially, a device is only allowed to draw 100 mA. It may request more current from the upstream device in units of 2 mA up to a maximum of 500 mA.
If a bus-powered hub is used, the devices downstream may only use a total of four units — 400 mA (i.e. 2 watts) — of current. This limits compliant bus-powered hubs to 4 ports. The host operating system typically keeps track of the power requirements of the USB network and may warn the computer's operator when a given segment requires more power than is available."
