I am in the initial stages of setting up a home server and so am looking for some feedback from anyone who has been through this.
We have around 1000 DVDs which I want to make available digitally to anyone in the house (2 kids room, main bedroom, lounge, kitchen) as well as pictures and other stuff. Not sure what software is best for converting those to something usable.
I've bought a few 1TB disks to get started but I'm not sure what box to get to put them in, but am considered a box with Windows home server, but what sort of power does it need? especially if 3 or 4 users are accessing at the same time.
I'm also looking at getting some of those 200mbps ethernet network devices that go through the house electricity since wifi is not particularly fast for video (especially HD content).
has anyone got a similar setup and can give some advice before I go down the wrong path?

I can't offer any advice as such, but could I ask how you're going about ripping 1000 DVDs?
Like normal rip method or something else?

Have you considered looking into the practicality of converting an older spec DVD duplicating machine?
You can buy new ones for around £200 so old kit is probably cheap and what with you being a Tech and all.......................
