The Register have just posted a review of the W960 -
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/[....]07/review_sony_ericsson_w960i/
Needless to say, it's not great.
When I think of the pre-release hype over this handset, and look at the damp squib that's now hit the market, you really have to wonder (a) what the hell are SE playing at, and (b) what were certain people around here thinking??
Oh dear.

Verdict
A well-specified but schizophrenic handset, that slightly disappoints...
the above was picked from the review you mention...funny how this is way different from what you intend with your post - something that "slightly dissapoints" is not something bad, is something good...not very good, but good
Mind you...the W960 was never a highly hyped phone...not to P990 status, or even now the "P5", nevermind the iphone (that, remember, also somewhat disapoints, at least for people that know what is a smartphone)
Add intomobile and AAS reviews, and what we see is that the W960 had a decent reception from the critics...and AFAIK is also selling well in the places where it is out (UK, etc)

Come on Ares, I didn't exactly have to work hard to pick that quote out, they mention their dissapointment a few times, and there's very little for SE to be pleased about in that review. I particularly like their definition of the W960 as "photogenic" - meaning that it looks better in pictures...
For the record, something that "slightly dissapoints" is just plain dissapointing, whichever way you cut it - and dissapointing is never "good".
Before you start stereotyping me as some kind of hater, I'll remind you that I was quite loyal to SE till very recently. They've dropped the ball with their current range, though - sorry, but it's true. The W960 is dissapointing, not to mention very late.
As for the hype - oh yes, I remember the tantalised posters around here as well as you do. This is a (sadly) a flagship device, a lot of people were told it was something special, and most wanted to believe it.
Here's the Register's verdict in full by the way - if you can read any positive spin in this whatsoever, please let me know:
The Verdict
It's hard to shake off a slight sense of disappointment about the W960i. The looks are nothing special, the UI seems a little unresolved and the features list while long is lacking in some important areas. Unless you really want the Symbian OS and Wi-fi, we suggest getting a K850i and sticking an 8GB Memory Stick Micro up its backside. Then you have an 8GB music player with a five-megapixel camera and HSDPA that you can use with one hand. You can't say that of the W960i

I never read any review of the phone got it the first day it arrived in "my" store. that was 30 nov -07 i had read all the speccs but only one thing really disapointed me
the camera... it really sucks compared to my old w900 and that phone was not even a "cybershot" if i could replace the camera with my old one the handsett would be my nr 1 pick.
there is no such thing as a perfect phone, don't think SE claims anywhere that it's a "one handed phone"? and why not just "feel" the phone. I have never liked reviews anyhow.

So??? Man, "slightly disapointed" is what it is...if i understand the word "slightly" (did it change meaning??? i am portuguese, so you never know) ...the phone is not perfect, but its not bad either...its a decent phone, like all other recent reviews claim.

Nowhere do they say it's a decent phone. In fact, forget the disappointment for a second - read that review and find me some genuinely positive comments, fit for a high-end multimedia flagship. Please?
The day we have to measure how "good" a phone is by the exact degree to which it disappointed the reviewer is a very sad day indeed. What would happen if they'd said it was just a "very slight" disappointment? Dancing in the streets of Sweden?
The W960 is just one big "meh" - that's the message of this review, from one of the most prominent tech sites. You can try and read something positive into that if you will, but as a lover of what SE were once capable of, it seems a crying shame to me.

Slight reminder:
This is Esato, a lot of the posters would buy something as the P1i/W960i over the N95/N82, while they are just better at everything.
SE is a GOD at Esato, everything SE is holy.

I thought P1i was quite good. Haha. SE is certainly not GOD though.

sasimi, whatever...
boinng, i have to repeat the quote
Verdict
A well-specified but schizophrenic handset, that slightly disappoints...
Again...it speaks for itself...or maybe "well-specified" also is something bad now, together with "slightly" being "alot" or "meh"???
Then there is the score...75%...with medium score being 50% (again, last time i checked, and here there is no "lost in translation" problem)...i donŽt see that has "meh"
And of course...you have to add the other reviews...try, like i said, intomobile and All About Symbian...youŽll see they ALL said the same thing...the w960 is not great has it could have been, but still a good phone
But we all know where youŽre preferences lay now, so, really its not a surprise
