Hi,
Had been here in the T610 days and used that usefully for a while before I lost it on a trip.

Now, the P1i seems to have caught my attention and before I go ahead and dig my pockets, would like to know somethings ... please help!

1) What's the difference between Wifi and Wlan? The W960 is shown to have Wifi while the P1i the Wlan. Can I basically use the P1i over the wifis that float around?

2) Would be using it as a business phone and so, would like to know if I would be able to view/edit/save excel and doc files? Powerpoint would be good too, but not essential. Maybe its Office could be purchased separately, but I'd like to know a) if it has the feature built in and 2) if bought separately, what OS type and how much would it be?

3) GPS ... have seen a car with GPS and thats about it ... basically its a fancy thing, but I'd like to know if I can put some kind of software and have the screen display the locations as I move .... what kind of software and where would I get it from ... are they available free?

4) As a business phone, which would serve me best ... the P1i, the Nokia E90 or one of the HTCs ... I'm actually more comfortable with an SE, but they have no value in Kuwait (Middle East, where I live). There are like 15 days used P1is selling at almost 75 to 85 USD cheaper!

Will be looking up every 20 minutes or so for a reply

Cheers & Thanks

Sorry, forgot to ask ... can I update the firmware by myself for this or do I have to get it done by a specialist ... as and when firmwares are available?

1 - Wifi, Wlan, same thing. The only thing to remember with the P1 is that it's only Wifi B, not the newer G standard, and some routers might need adjusting (most support both, but not necessarily by default).

2 - The P1 and the W960 are UIQ3 phones, and both come with Quickoffice installed, which allows you to view and edit both Word and Excel, and view (but not edit) Powerpoint as well. It's a good package, comparable to the Microsoft equivalent in Windows Mobile.

3 - There's no GPS (or GPS software) built in, but you can use a bluetooth GPS receiver with the phone, and I believe there are compatible versions of TomTom etc available (for a fee). You can also install Googlemaps for free.

4 - I use a HTC/Windows Mobile device (the Tytn II) and its a great phone - HSDPA for broadband-speed internet, GPS built in, 400mhz processor for (in my experience) snappier applications, perfect sync and push email with my company's Exchange server, MUCH better software support (try searching for Windows Mobile/Pocket PC freeware, and then try the same for UIQ3 - and remember UIQ2 isn't compatible). Generally it's a much more powerful device. On the downside it's bigger, heavier, and the battery life's not so good, so it's horses for courses. Try the P1, and then try some WM phones, and see what suits you best.

Ah! thanks to the two of you'll ... DarkKrypt & Boinng ... nice details

Dark ... same queries eh .. read that post entirely and am happy for the info!

Boinng, thanks for letting me know all those here (including the view all feature of ppt files). Will take a look at the tytn too before deciding, but in general, I think I'll be comfortable enough with the P1i ... GPs was just meant to show off to friends anyway, so, I guess I'll forget about it

Thanks again and cheers!

By the way, GPS is a giant battery drain. So avoid it when not necessary, your charger will thank you.

I'd be tempted to wait for the P5, if you can, based on the info. on it so far.
