Neither the N96, nor any other device announced that the mobile conference is worthy of any real appreciation. Is this because Nokia raised the bar so high with the N95, its impossible to make any more innovations? Has the hard screen smartphone reached its peak?

I think they may have reached saturation point with S60 - until you start getting into altogether different form factors, there's not much else you can do with it. The N95 needed better battery life, but that's about the only thing you could add without dramatically altering it (eg, adding a touchscreen or qwerty keyboard).
Personally, I see the N95 as proof that no matter what they do a platform like S60, the devices they produce are still just phones. Without a touchscreen and/or a proper keyboard, I just don't believe they're good for anything else. They're smartphones for people who don't really need/use them.

just put all the features of these new SE models on one phone and you ill see that n96 is just a baby compare to it ... i mean all the w980 music features, all the c702 and c902 imaging features into a x1 for exemple or a G900 if you like smaller phones...

They still don't have a microwave in their phones, now that's for sure!

I think SE is making a mistake by making seperate phones for seperate things. Sure make a few phones for music and a few for photographs. But what SE really lacks is a phone that does both really really well and if they could combine it they'd have a hell of a phone.
Oh and they need to make more smartphones as well.

Im abit surprised at the N96 design cos it looks like a N81,
features wise the memorys good but everything else still remains the same!
I think it will be 2009 before we see anything major im talking of 8MP camera phone, Larger Mem and a DIY Punch maker

if they combined everything(like nokia have done)wouldn't they end up in the same situation where nokia is now,the so called saturation point.where most of the phones they bring would just seem ordinary and like their previous ones...
@QVGA
btw,which new SE are you thinking of getting

Rubbish Nokia will go on innovating and getting better. Though i have a SonyEricsson now i still love Nokia phones and believe they are still ahead of the competition.

@Boinng and all,
I don't know how it has manged to escape so many of you but Nokia makes two distinct ranges of smart phones, N Series are Multimedia devices and E Series are business devcies.
IMO the growth in smart phones is going to be led by multimedia smart phones not business smart phones as these have already reached virtual saturation point.
Don't under estimate Nokia in this filed they know exactly what they are doing both with OVI and with there coming touch UI. You don't get 40% market share and to be number one for so long with out good reason that's for sure.
