Right here goes...
I love my W960i to pieces but it just doesn't work!
I bought the handset about a week ago, and have spent many hours since trying to connect it to the computer via the USB.
My problem is that...when I connect the USB from the handset to the PC. I get an error message saying 'USB Device Not Recognized'. I'm no technician, but after many a phone calls to SE, it seems that it is because the drivers are not working? Now, I've done everything they've suggested...and still no luck
They suggested I reinstalled the PC Suite from the version from the website.
Download the updated software from the website (but this doesn't work! because it just pops up with the same ‘not recognized’ message)
They’ve talked me through various other things like clearing the history of the phone by deleting some files :S
For the record, I get the impression it is not the computer because I have tried it on 2 laptops; and I don’t think it is the actual USB, because my old P900i synchronizes with PC suite through it, so I am stumped!
I reeaaaaaaly want to get my music on this phone, and sync it with the comp.
If anyone has anyyyyy suggestions, it would be appreciated
and if you actualy get it to work, you'll definitely be on my xmas card list

old laptops? my first thought was that your comp had usb1.1 not 2 and that's why it did't work but does not seem like it when you tried 2 comps.

What operating system are you using? and give details of PC. Do you have a external USB hub?

I've tried all USB ports, no luck.
The reason it doesn't work is because the drivers won't install. But I don't understand why. Any ideas?
The laptops are not that old, they were bought the xmas before last. So a year or so. They are both on Windows XP (Service Pack 2). They don't have an external hub.
If you need any more details, just ask. Do you think it is the problem with the computer, the handset or the software if you was to have a rough guess?
Basically, would it be worth getting a new handset? Vodafone operate a 2 week replacement policy and the deadline is coming up!

how about u go to the place form where u brought it, n tell them about this, n if they too get the same prob, then it cud be ur handset, else prob cud be with ur comp.
So far i havent experienced any prob with my w960i.

What would stop the drivers from installing is the question. I take it the handset has nothing to do with this installation. So no need to get a replacement.
Surely someone on this forum must have the technical expertise to solve my problemmmmmmmmm!

Hi Sophie,
If all you want to do is sync your music to the phone, all you need is the
Sony Ericsson Media Manager.
Also, are you the administrator of your computer? If your account is a 'limited' one you might not have the relevant permissions to install the drivers from the PC Suite.
But to sync music with the phone, the only drivers Windows needs are Mass Storage drivers, which are built in to Windows 2000 and above. When you connect your phone, do you get the prompt on the phone to use USB fast data connection mode?
The other thing you could do is connect the phone then right-click your My Computer icon and select the Manage option. In here go to the Device Manager option and then right-click the very top line in the right hand pane (usually the name of your computer with an icon of a PC next to it) and select the option to 'Scan for hardware changes'. See if that makes the phone appear as a drive in My Computer.

DCUK07, thank you for your post. But it turns out it was a naff USB cable!
I used the deskstand instead, and it worked! Wooo. I've just installed Media Manage, but it seems a bit lame. It can't see the phone atm :S
I've read that alot of you use myphonexploer or something..whats that? Do you reccomend it?
