Does anyone know any products which are free which can enable me to play AVI files on my P1i?

you can find them on many websites...

I have tried Divx Player for UIQ3; Didn't like it because the background lights will dim off after a while and you won't see anything on the display. Except, of course, if you setup the backlight to be always on. This is not necessary with the internal media player.

Well you can always put a shortcut on your standby screen to take you straight to the backlight settings. I have one as I use mobipocket a lot - it then takes all of 2 secconds to switch it on/auto.

i use core player and like it although it has the same problem with the backlight going off - does smartmovie have this problem?

i think power movie wud be the best. I have all 3 installed, n power movie seems to play more smooth.
