Most are made in China, regardless of the destination market. They do make them somewhere else to (maybe Malaysia?) but I can't remember for sure.

of course not, hw ( fone ) and fw are 2 different things. the mentioned countries only produce the fones, not sure, where the fw are uploaded. i mean in the same factory or somewhere else.

S700i was the only Sony Ericsson assembled in Japan, as it shared most of its parts with the SO505iS

the firmware is put into the phone at factory... the base of the firmware is made in Lund, Sweden but I guess some language translation is made in each country

The W900i i used to own on Vodafone years ago was made in Japan so was S700i. If something is made in Japan or Germany then its quality. Most Nokia phones are from Germany Finland or Hungary. I have a friend in Hungary and her mom works at Nokia factory.
