hi my phone will not recharge with an official SE charger..i have tried several.
however it will recharge when plugged into my laptop with the usb cable
any suggestions

What happens when you turn on the room lights. If the light bulbs don't work then you may have a power cut?
I can't suggest much if you have tried several chargers except does another Sony Ericsson phone charge with the same charger in the same mains socket?

If the problem persists, I suggest you go back to your retailer and replace the set.
FYI, charging your mobile using USB requires more time than using charger.
