Hello,
A person I know has offered to give me his P1i at a discounted rate. He owns a mobile shop that accepts exchange and so although he says it has been used only for about a month, I'm presuming he is just telling that to add value ... Could someone tell me:

1) Is there a way to know when it was first used.
2) Is there a way to know how many times the battery was charged, so I can be sure its a new/original battery.

and ... is there anything I should look out for??? He has offered it sell it at about USD.140 less than the price of a new one.

Thanks for any help!

AFAIK, there is no way of telling this apart from looking at file or folder properties via filemanager (select the item - more - properties), this only seems to give a modification date rather than a creation date though - but it might give you some idea.

Of course all these dates, apart from the ones on the memory card will be reset if/when it was reflashed.

Other things to check are simply in the general condition - scratches/marks etc. People have also mentioned some units having creaky cases after a few months of use - mine certainly does around the camera, this doesn't affect it's function though. Maybe also look for any scratches in the glass that covers the camera lens.

You can also check it's unlocked by opening the service menu, to do this: * jogup * jogdown jogdown * jogdown *

where jogup/down = one click of the jogdial in either direction

then go to 'service information' - 'sim locks', if all the items listed have an unlocked padlock symbol and a number 5 next to them then it is fully unlocked.

Good luck & I hope the deal is as good as it sounds, it could of course be stolen, which might cause problems in the future if the networks in your country block the IMEI of phones reported lost/stolen. This is a matter of trust with all phones bought privately though...

The best way to check it out though is to put your own sim in it and make some calls/send some texts & generally play with it to make sure you're satisfied with it personally.

Ah! ok! Thanks AD

I guess, I don't really have to worry about it being stolen property as its got all the papers too. The guy even promises to give the required warranty papers!

Its mainly the battery I'm worried about as these people tend to switch batteries. The FMA software has a feature that would show the number of times the battery was recharged ... I used to see it when I had my T610, but I heard does not work with the smart phones!

Thanks once again AD for the reply!

Cheers!

you can check the unit manufecturing date as well. it's written in the phone sticker under the battery as 07W40 (meaning week 40 of 2007). shouldn't be much behind then the purchase date.
