I was interested in this a long time ago, but couldn't find out, I wish someone could answer this question...

in any how, you could go to connection manager, click on the active connection, the last entry is the shared clients, you will find the number of processes or application using this connection, but I do not know how you can figure out who are these clients. so If you know that you only have web open, and shared clients on GPRS is 1 and WiFi is 0, then you know that opera is using GPRS and so on...

Another thing is activate "show connection dialog", you will explicitely specify what should access what on the launch of each application.

Guys,
that's so easy. At least on my P990.
FIRST if phone is using Wlan the Wlan icon (on the status bar) changes, looks more vivid.
Secondly, when you connect to the net you can click on the connection icon (this tiny earth globe on the status bar) and it leads you to the connection manager, where current connection is displayed OVER the line. That's it.

What if you click on this little globe icon and you find that you are connected to both GPRS and WLAN? in my case I have 4 connections active at the same time: WLAN, Internet GPRS, WAP GPRS and Streaming GPRS!!!

On the active connections list, if you look closely, the connection being used at the moment has different icon on the left.
Ex: Not being used icon = 0, being used icon = ((0))

I am under the impression that when WLAN is Enabled and connected then ALL the data connections on my W960i use WLAN and 3G/GPRS is inoperative. Can anyone confirm my theory?

Well, my GPRS connection is called "M". The "M" account is being used whenever I use GPRS or WiFi and I don't know why. I can tell by the speed of the connection (WiFi is faster) and if I check the usage in the Conn. Manager. From there I can tell if I use my GPRS quota or I am on WiFi. Really a blunder from SE not being able to tell you which connection do you use....

Your internet accounts are being used in the order of their prority set in your group account, if you keep all types of connections in the default 'Internet' group.

WLAN accounts (default wifi account + manually added AP's) are set by default to the highest priority, if you do not change their order manually.

But if you are paranoid and it makes you feel better to have a full control of your network access, you can also create a new group account and name it 'Internet GPRS' or whatever and move your gprs accounts in this group.

Then go to Internet accounts - More - Options and check the checkbox for 'Show connection dialog'.

Now a dropdown box will pop up whenever you start an app which requires an Internet connection and you will be able to select the group account you wish...

All very helpful but hardly plug and play simplicity. whilst I suspect that mastering there features is half the fun for many Esatonians if SE want to challenge Nokia (and Apple?) they need to go commercial and make their products accessible to all.
