Hello:
i was a P990i user last year and suffered the lack of RAM and continuous buggy firmware releases. I moved to the Symbian S60 platform and have been happy but miss the touch screen functionality.
X1 is too far away. Would you recommend buying a P1i now or is the same P990i story all over again?
thanks

If U don't mind that UIQ3 has less 3rd party programs then I recommend it. After Nokia E70 I've bought a P1i 1 month ago and I love it

. Its speed could be little faster but it has enough RAM to keep every apps running (just like E90...). And it is massive... I've switched it off first time since weeks ago...

Well.. it's possible to say, without lying or exaggerating, that the p1 might actually be one of the best smartphones on the market... Which, imo, says all there is to say about how utterly useless a lot of the products out there really are at the moment. As well as how pointless and non- responsive (as well as disingenuous) some customer- relations and strategies tend to be.
It's also highly unlikely that the attitude towards the customers will change, and that the phone- manufacturers and the telecoms will continue to see smartphones as primarily a platform to manufacture more intricate and advanced advertisements. While actually making a good product, and using more than just small parts of the potential will be downprioritized. While of course actively sabotaging those options for the rest of us will have it's own department - along with the useless customer- responses department. Who, apparently, also have the major part of the budget, ahead of "development" and "implementation" efforts.
It's funny, no? Both on HTC and SE, we're really dependent on helpful engineers somewhere in the system working as go- betweens to even have any useful contact with the company. Really, it's just fantastic to think of - and what was the watchword again? Oh, yes, Innovation!
Really -

you!
edit: 500 posts. That's just two screeds every day since launch, you know?

I wouldn't recommend buying a P1i now no. I've got one, and while it is a great little phone it is definately showing its age now. Its touch screen is only really usable with a stylus or fingernail - it isn't really designed for use with fingers and this really shows it up when compared to today's touch phones.
I'd recommend one of the HTC Touch devices, namely the latest O2 HTC Touch Cruise, or at least think carefully about why you'd get a P1i which is now quite an old device. The actual usable screen size is very small when you take away the menus and annoyingly-large application title bar. Its tricky though because if you still want a nice keypad and touch screen in a small phone, there aren't many like the P1i!
If you want a decent modern touch phone, I'd say that Windows Mobile is the way to go, even Sony Ericsson have adopted it in their planned XPERIA X1 phone (which is what you should really wait for, but won't be out for agggeessss).

i can honestly say that i think that the p1i is the phone i like the most on the market right now. the only phone that rivels it is the n95 8gb. the nokia is better on paper but i wouldn't give up this qwerty keypad for anything. the only thing i really would like is flash support for the web browser. you can get a good deal for the p1i and i think it is great value.

I would say go for it, it's not ideal but well worth it's current price

I totaly agree with mobman, if nokia N95 8GB had a qwerty keypad I would switch my P1 for it but since it doesn't ...

I would go for P1i now or with a bit for sony ericsson G900 but that does not have a full key pad, so i would go for P1i and if u are a regular esato user then u will know how good of a work horse the P1i is
