my k800i firmware is R8BC004 currently. Can i do the menu mod directly ? or require me to flash to a editable firmware ? any gurus here can help me ....

Exactly as mr.trance has writen.
But its really good to have the latest firmware either way.. there is a reason why new firmware is produced AND
you will find alot of patches to the new firmware.
But menus and drivers you can change with any firmware.
Here is a guide i wrote how you change acoustics if that is something you want to do.
