Are they?
Assuming you goto post office pay £102 for £100 postal order then send it to pay for an ebay item. How do you know it has not been lost in the post?
If it is lost in the post, surely you will be £100 down?
I received a postal order today which does not have my name on it, surely I could con the buyer by saying I didnt receive it and use this postal order to pay for something else... (Not that I will be doing that)
Just looking for some clarification please.

If it was special delivery or signed for delivery then they have the tracking number and can see who has signed for it.
If it's bog standard 1st / 2nd class then they can't track it.
Not sure what the sender gets when sending postal orders, if they have a tracking number that can show where they were cashed, still wouldn't prove it was you though.

If it is crossed, it has to be paid into a bank account. as for being lost in the post, you should treat as cash, and at least send recorded

It is trackable, normally the person pays about £2 and will receive the name of the person and bank account for where the money was cashed. And if they want to be well nasty about it they could get the police involved.

So you need to get a new name, new bank account and cash it away from where you live.
Do-able, but is it worth it.
