I've had this handset for over 7 months yet a couple of days ago the internet browser stopped working. I cannot get onto the internet, the 'connecting' bar gets halfway and then freezes. Nothing happens. I have not altered any settings and everything used to work ok, so what's the problem??

Has your network changed its settings without telling you? - try runing the internet wizard to confirm/deny.

I haven't altered any settings, for months the internet worked and now it doesn't. I have since updated my settings via the O2 website and it still doesn't work. I can access via WAP but not the mobile internet. Is there any setting on my P1i that may have become corrupted? What else can I check?

Do you mean the 'mobileweb' account? If so, then it seems a lot of people have had problems with this, the fix seems to be that you have to uncheck the proxy server box in your account settings: control panel - connections - internet accounts - o2 mobileweb - more - proxy - uncheck 'use proxy server' - save.
Due to the fact that many people have had to do this, I conclude it's a network issue, and not a fault in your phone.
Hope this helps

Try untick "use proxy server" in the O2 Mobileweb settings.
I was same as you - all worked without problem until this month or so ago!

I have contacted O2 and they gave me different internet settings to type into my phone. Why would these have changed? When I connect to the internet now it says 'O2 GPRS Postpay' when it used to say 'O2 Mobileweb' - is this a different service and will I be charged more for it? Confused! Everything was tickety-boo until a couple of weeks ago.

you won't be charged any more or less as the cost is for amounts of data transfered, irrespective of which server it comes through. I doubt you'll notice any change in load times for web pages as mobileweb connects via gprs as well. The only way to get any faster with the p1 is to use 3g or wi-fi. This thuogh is dependant on local coverage, whereas gprs now seems to be available vitually everywhere in the UK.
It seems to me that o2 may be restructuring their data system as many people have had problems with mobileweb of late.
