Hi everyone,

I have just ordered a Nokia N95 8GB and the first thing I will be doing is getting some sat nav software for it. I refuse to use and pay for the built in Nokia maps so I have a list of 7 software options but wanted some advice from either current users or people with a bit more knowledge than a newbie to this sort of thing.

My requirements are (in order of importance):

[1] Must be compatible with Nokia N95 8GB (Symbian OS v9.2, S60 3rd Edition)
[2] Must make use of internal GPS
[3] UK maps minimum
[4] No requirement of GPRS
[5] Come with safety camera capability (either built in or as an extra)
[6] Voice directions
[7] 3D maps
[8] General look/feel/speed/options/etc

My considered software options are:

[1] Route 66 Mobile 8
[2] Navigon MobileNavigator 6
[3] CoPilot Live 6
[4] Garmin Mobile XT
[5] Sygic Mobile GPS Navigation SW
[6] Navicore Personal 2007 (possibly requires fix)
[7] TomTom Navigator 6

I know that TomTom doesn't support the internal GPS so that can be ruled out straight away but I believe the other 6 do and are all compatible with my phone so it's just a case of fulfilling requirements 3-8.

Please provide your recommendation or top three or if you have any other suggestions.

route66 support the internal gps afaik, but i never tried it, even it should work fine as i read it in other forums

I've tried several of these and by far the best is Garmin. It's the only one that can touch TomTom.

I've always used garmin since their early days and even now have their nuvi 670 (with EU, US and Aus maps). I also have tomtom and garmin on my TyTN II and have to say that I still prefer the garmin interface

I take it Garmin comes with what I want (safety camera capability/voice directions/etc)?

Are the safety cameras an extra or does it come with the standard package?

I've tried most sat-nav systems for S60, and I do like Garmin and also Navicore. Not a big fan of TomTom navigator 6 on S60 mainly because of the licencing straight jacket only allowing use on one phone, also the mappings not as accurate as some, it is probably the most user friendly though.

Personally i use and have been using Tom Tom first 5 and now 6 for a long time so alreday have a dedicated GPS receiver which IMO outperforms any of the built in GPS you find on devcies. As i am so used to Tom Tom it is my software of choice but as you know doesn't work with the built in GPS the next best IMO is the GARMIN as it seems to get great feedback from users.

The stand alone GPS receivers outperform the in-built GPS units, my personal favourite is the TomTom receiver but the Nokia LD 3W unit pretty good, with the added advantage that it uses a standard Nokia small pin charger and a user replacable Nokia internal battery.

RoyalTek GPS also use Nokia batteries and are pretty good. In fact, I think the GPS bundled with the P1 is RoyalTek.

wish there would be i-go for symbian os, for me thats the best. not to mention i-go 2008, amazing with all the 3d features, buildings etc love it
