> T28 data cable for the T68i

It is known that the T28 cable used with the T68i lets you tinker around into unspoken areas of the phone. Apart from the more than obvious usage of the old cable with the new phone, what other services does it offer?
I'm contemplating on the weight of the advantages of buying a T28 cable to poke the phone manually at home, as compared to taking it to a service guy and leaving it upto him to do the job.
