My university has free WiFi throughout, I can connect to it on my laptop by just clicking on it,
my P1i connects to 2 different WiFi routers using a WEP key, but selecting the university hotspot didn't successfully connect,
do you have to make an account for every hotspot you happen to want to connect to at that time?

No, you don't need to make another account. Once your P1i has detected another Wifi hotspot, once you click connect it will add it to your list of 'wifi points'.
Well, at least that's the way it's been doing it on mine.
