what you need to do is downgrade the bootloader to 7.something and then tun RSD lite 3.7 to unlock it..
you can check your bootloader version by pressing star and hash as you turn it on without a sim card it...

If i were you i would be very careful when doing this, because the moto v3 may not be a v3 afterall.
I am not fully aware of all the details, but i too have a moto v3 but when connected to the pc via rsdlite it shows up as a v3r.
Now the key thing here is that while the moto i have was sold to me by a shop as a v3 the bootloader / software is tagging it as a v3r. Not sure why, newer batch maybe, change in the hardware of the phone, really dont know.
But in any case if you have a v3r (not distinguishable from the v3 unless you connect it to the pc) you will not, to my knowledge, be able to unlock the phone unless you do so by testpoint (i.e. opening up the phone)
If you have a standard v3, and it shows up as a v3 under rsdlite then you can continue to unlock it with software

ok did you check your phones model number through a piece of software on the pc?
Because as i said, in my case i was sold a v3 and by all accounts it is, but there must have been some internal changes (no doubt a newer bootloader) that warrents the phone a v3r not v3 despite no physical difference between the two.
If you did check your phone version through a software package and it does actually show up as v3r, then as i said i have not heard of any type of software that will allow you unlock the phone. As far as i know there is a testpoint unlock which is possible but this means opening up the phone and really should be done by a specialist.
Market stalls may be able to unlock the phone, not really sure i would trust them because the v3r looks identical to a v3 and if they try to run the software they will end up bricking your phone.
Your best bet is in fact phoning the operater and asking them to unlock it. There is a specialist motorola website, but because the website is about hacking the phones i'm not sure if esato rules allow me to post the link. But if you google it, i'm sure you'll find a number of resources.
On another note, if you have managed to instal packages such as rsdlite on your pc, you can alter a lot of the internal aspects of the phone freeing up memory, increasing the speaker volume, changing the outer LCD image when the phone is open etc... again all of which is discussed on other websites (not sure if i'm allowed posting the link).
Unfortunately unlocking the phone is a different story. I've personally requested the unlock code from the operator.
