I cant download polyphonic tones to the Nokia 6610 using infrared from the pc, it needs to be converted using its software Nokia Sound Converter. Why cant i just download them like what i do with my P800...? i mean its in midi format, the P800 accepts it but why not the Nokia 6610!?!?!

Please help...Thanx

unfortunately, the nokia 6610/7210 uses the sp-midi format for its polyphonic ringtones. so you need to use the nokia pc suite to convert the regular midis to the sp format. moreover, since the phone can only play four notes simultaneously, some additional processing on the midi file needs to be done through the pc suite...

i really don't understand the reasoning behind the use of sp-midi in these nokia phones.

yes. am a filipino.

haven't yet found a site that has an extensive offering polyphonic tones for that format. i recommend that you just do a google search the midi file that you like and then "tweak" it using the nokia pc suite for upload to your phone.

i have a collection of some polytones in mmf format. pm me your email if you would like to try some of them out for your phone.

sp midi is specified by 3GPP if I remember correctly as THE midi format for polyphonic ringtones you can get via MMS. Other MIDI formats are not supported through MMS.
The Nokia Sound Converter is actually quite handy given that the phones (6610 and 7210) offer -only but it's a good start - 4 channels at a time. Though, you can play more instruments than that.

Quite a few sites are compatible with the sp midi format:
www.digidots.co.uk (and their wapsite): really good
www.matrixm.com: a real mess, but there are a few good ones
etc... check the posts on esato.
And Club Nokia Asia has a lot.

Nokia Series 40 phones, including 6610 and 7210, supports also GM1, not only sp-midi.

super g and orange,

thanks for the info guys. at least i know then that there is a valid reason for choosing sp-midi. although i now find it really odd that the 7210/6610 cannot send any sound attachments through mms.

It's because ringingtones are considered as protected content by the copyright laws.

Thanks for the info too...i did notice that the nokia sound converter only supports few channels and i cant get them to play well with standard midi tracks. it comes out differently sounding bad.
