"On April 2nd, on board a specially equipped Airbus A318 flying European routes, passengers were able to use their cell phone not only to send and receive text messages and emails, but also to make and receive calls for the first time at 30,000 feet.

As from 2 April 2008, Air France and OnAir are launching the second phase of their three-month trial onboard mobile telephony service, initiated in December 2007.

► How does it work?

Passengers must have a cell phone providing access to international calls covered by a roaming agreement
Simply dial the international prefix (+) or 00 + country code + number (without the 0),
12 simultaneous calls are possible per picocell network, as well as unlimited text messages and emails
the costs for using this service are invoiced by their operator in the usual way
► When and where?

this trial service is being conducted over six months (voice calls during the last three months) on a number of Air France European routes served by the specially equipped A318.
► And after the trial ?

During the six-month trial, customers can provide feedback and comments on this new service. Depending on the feedback received, Air France will then decide whether to launch this service on all its flights."

When this service takes off in Britain we are going to get people on their phones saying the classic IM ON THE PLANE. Whats the point i wont bother using my phone on a plane though i can see people getting excited saying IM ON THE PLANE AT 37,000 feet. I flew to Budapest last year and some idiot would not switch his phone off they took it off him. Crazy.
