Reason im asking is I know someone who is at Work almost everyday till late at night and they leave there cat indoors without letting it out,

im told they let it out on the porch about 1 or twice a month,
but this person lives in a Flat above some shop whereas's there busy traffic and Kid's mis-behaving.

I was to sure if this was cruel but im worried about the cats wellbeing,
and I was thinking of anonamousley reporting this person the RSPCA

what you lot think?

It's not necessarily cruel providing that the cat is otherwise well looked after, i.e. it always has fresh food and water, clean litter, toys etc. and that it gets plenty of love and attention when the owner is home.

We used to have a Siamese cat that never went out by himself (because we too lived in a first floor flat) and he was very happy and contented. However, My girlfriend was at home with him for most of the day...

So that's an important point. If the cat is being starved of company then yes, it could be very cruel. This is why many people who keep "indoor" cats often have more than one

I assume the Cat has food and water but it's locked up in the Kitchen when the persons at work till late,

it doesn't get much excersise the flats pretty small!

I understand people want indoor cats but they are living animals and should be left to come and go as they will like people.

I just think it's cruel keeping it locked up what a life that is!
other people I know let there Cats roam free.

Keeping a Kitty within a big house is a better environment for them as they have access to the Garden as such !

If it's locked in a kitchen all day then yes, it is cruel.

Cats do indeed need plenty of space and plenty of love and attention so in this case I would report them too.

But, believe it or not, they don't need a garden to be happy and contented!

I have a fat cat who only moves from bed to bed and he's quite content with it.

^^^

HeHeHe! Yeah, my cat's like that too. Except when he wants something, that is, and then everybody has to drop what they're doing immediately and hanker to his every whim

My cat won't leave the bloody house lol, goes out for a poop and then comes back and stays in all day and night, only cruel if you don't let them out when they want to, should be fine though.

EDIT:

No, I wouldn't call the RSPCA unless they are being treated badly, and you can see they are in distress.

Yeah, but keeping it locked in a kitchen all day isn't on, surely? Mind you, I suppose the poor buggers in the cat rescue places spend most of their time in cages so you're probably right.

I have 4 cats and one of them never goes outside and another one sleeps in my room 22 hours a day and eats and plays for the other 2 hours. I think cats like to just do nothing they are very lazy animals. I wouldnt say its cruel but I dont know if you will be able to tell but i think it would be obvuious if the cat wanted to go out, it would be screaming all the time near the door, mine do lol.
