Using p990i w/o flip and luv it except for one annoyance. Whenever I compose/reply to an email/sms or search contacts, the ALT characters always are inputed first. I have to press ALT button in order to use the normal letters. Is there a setting to use the regular letters as default when using email/sms? Thanks!

Check which keyset you're using on the 'virtual keyboard' - just a hunch, but if it's set to the alt chars then this may affect the 'real' version
Just tried having a play with my old P990, it seems that the above is only the case if you have the VK open. The only way I found to simulate what's happening to you is to double click the 'alt' key to lock it on.
ounds to me like the keyboard driver is somewhat confused, have you tried shutting down the phone, removing the battery, wait 30s, replacing it and starting up again? This will force the phone to reload the driver from the internal disk.
If this doesn't work, then you may have to perform a master reset, to clear all of the phones variable infomation files back to default - back up your data first though..

Before you type anything in the SMS, press ALT twice or any number of times needed until "Aa" shows up in the bottom menu bar... that should fix the problem

LOL..don't have any children so rules this possiblity out. Thanks for the tips guys. Will try them out and let you all know how it goes. BTW..I've had my virtual keyboard disabled since i got the phone a few weeks back.

The easiest way to solve the problem is do the master reset, I've lost my virtual keyboard button once and did that lol
