"US-based gadget maker Hop-on has revealed that its low end GSM cell phone with no LCD screen has received orders from an as yet unidentified European distributor for an initial test purchase order of 10,000 phones.

Peter Michaels, president of Hop-on said, "Response to our simple, inexpensive, $20 phone was phenomenal. The initial test purchase order with multiple purchase orders behind it is a big step in introducing Hop-on to Europe".

The low-cost phone that operates in the 900/1800MHz band is aimed more at emergency use - for example to have in the glove compartment of your car - rather than encouraging the worst of our non-eco throw-away consumer mentality."

thats a stupid idea because you can get a phone for £5 from your shop here in the uk on payg unless there planning on disposable phones for a £1 then it's a crazy idea

yeah, but the invention of disposable cams is ok because its not everyday you use the cam. Not like cellphones i think its a necessity right now

Consdering you can get a Moto (forgot the name) for free from Orange with a £10 top up, it makes this disposable phone all the more irrelevant.

I agree with miss uk and most of you, as long we dont have cheap handsets this concept is preety useless.

I for one wouldnt go for it even when I can use a 5110
