Do Samsung offer firmware updates for their phones in the way that SE or Nokia do?

i have a friend who works in samsung. she said their phones are also upgradable when it comes to firmwares.. but she didn't elaborated how. she just told me she would have someone from their tech dept call me up and instruct me what to do..
at the moment, am still waiting for the call from the tech dept
