> Skype for mobile in beta - runs on S60 and UIQ!
Bookmark topic
Finally
http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/mobile/
"Skype has released an official mobile client. The application is written in Java so it should run on a variety of phones including both S60 and UIQ phones. The application uses an Internet connection for status and contact information and for Skype chat (instant messaging). However while the application does allows you to make calls, it routes them through the PSTN (phone) network rather than over the Internet. This means you will be charged for both incoming and outgoing calls of any type. Read on for more."

this is good but rather pointless for wifi users. Currently I can run the WM skype client over wifi and voice talk to other skype users for free, or skype out over internet (not pstn) for 1.5 cents per minute (within Australia).
A local pstn call from my mobile is 60 cents per minute. It's hard to see the point of this j2me skype client unless I was making lot's of international calls, which I'm not.
My brother in law has a 3 branded N95 with skype built in, but can only use his "skype minutes" over gprs - he cannot make voip calls over his wifi connection.
And once the skype minutes run out he get's charged gprs useage rates.
All this leads me to conclude Skype sux bigtime. And their nose is brown from sucking up to the operators.

Well I guess IMing from skype is cheaper than an SMS?

Fring routes all calls via WIFI so is still a better option.

alright if you can convince all your buddies, family and business contacts to permanently run skype on their handset. I know what chance I have of getting that to happen, buckleys.

Well all of MY buddies already have skype accounts so they would be even thrilled to know that now they can put it on their phones.

Hi all
There is no way i am going to start paying for my Skype to Skype calls that just defeats the whole point of Skype. I will be sticking with Fring that has served me well since my N93 and hasn't cost me a penny for a single Skype to Skype call in nearly 2 years.
What is amazing is that 3 have an official Skype app that runs over 3G and is still free for all Skype to Skype calls, this version is just like iSkoot or all those other pseudo Skype apps.
Fring will work over WiFi or 3G using your Data Connection so if you have a Data package will still cost nothing extra even over 3G.
