Its been 6 months since k850 was launched in india, im surprised and yet to see an add of k850. Although im planning to get one. M thinking what made SE to dump their flagship product.

Ya i have seen some adds in news prints but the most effective is TV add. A SE dealer in my area has managed to sell only 22 k850s in 5 months. People are not willing to give it a try, i think because of price and awfull keypad. At moment SE is sitting idle without any marketing. On the other hand nokia 82 samsung lg viewty and motorola continue as usual with adds all over. Motorala despite losses continue to fight, thats a good sign.

indeed the k850 is the worst cybershot phone, in my humble opinion, too.

this still doesn't justify NOT promoting it, afterall, thats what companies to, promote their products, no matter how bad it is...

funny.

You're lucky they ever advertise at all. SE doesn't advertise anything in New Zealand. I think the last SE ad I saw here was for the W800i ages ago. And even that was hardly played.

Then you have Nokia who extensively advertises with huge billboards, TV ads, newspaper ads, etc. LG takes out ads in the middle of shopping malls here, and in magazines. I've seen a lot of Samsung ads in magazines too. These three brands also sponsor events and sports teams.

Absolutely no SE ads at all though except for a tennis tournament. I don't get this, because nobody i know even watches tennis.

I have seen a TV ad few times when K850 was launched... A guy while going back to home from office uses a toy monster and places it in front of him and takes a pic with K850 so that it looks like the monster is on the builing and so on. And when he reaches home, he shows all those pics to his child. It was a nice ad but not effective or eye catching or anything...

Agree with Oli, The last time i saw SE commercials/advertisements especially on my TV is when S700 was released here. Nokia has lots of advertisements around be it teasers, TV commercials, posters etc. that's the main problem i can deem of why SE doesn't make much better sales on some of their quality products - they lack marketing imo.

I watch the ASB Womens tennis tournament because its on over the New Year period when I have holidays! And it went off this year as NZ #1 Marina Erakovic reached the semi-final knocking out the number 1 seed, a Russian with a world ranking of 22. All of Auckland was riveted to the tennis for a week as Marina exceeded expectations and sold out the stadium day after day. What a perfect occasion to launch the new SE range of V640i/K770i/W910i/K850i and get rid of the many remaining K610i/K800i/W950i sitting unsold in Vodafone stores everywhere, yes?

Alas no.
No print ads, no tv ads, no press releases, and the new range arrived a month later in early February. Vodafone dealers are still trying to get rid of K800i and W950i now 4 months later.

The SE NZ marketing manager should be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail - like they used to do to tenderfoots in the Wild West.
Then I read here that the Maketing Manager for Asia Pacific is to be promoted to the Global Marketing position. If he can ignore the situation here in NZ for so long, how will he improve SE's marketing position globally?
I don't think we'll see any improvement in marketing in the near future.

The press releases for the G502 and Z780 have been vague to say the least. I think all SE's A200 and G/C series phones are much better than the spec's on paper suggest. On paper the V640i was not much different to the 2 1/2 yr old V630i/K618i/K610i series but the reality is the complete opposite. The V640i is at least 200% better than the V630i but only 80% of the cost. If a die-hard SE fan like me can miss the marketing message how are the non-enthusiast consumers brainwashed into buying endless Nokia's ever gonna get it?

SE has a useless marketing department/campaign! Back in the day I used to think Ericsson was bad but SE is worse in advertising/marketing.

To make money and expose yourself in this competitive business you HAVE to spend money on marketing. Nokia is all over the place and they keep on increasing their market share because whereever people turn they see Nokia and not SE.

People entering the market as first timers will more likely buy a product that is being reinforced on them time and time again than an obscure one.

The other manufacturers are also advertising extensively but not SE.
I would say Samsung is second to Nokia in marketing and coincidentally they became the number two player in market share terms.

LG may just sneak past SE if SE don't pull their fingers out of it.
