"Mobile Instant Messaging (MIM) is set to cannibalise SMS (texting) and eventually email from PC, a survey from TNS Technology has found. The TNS Global Telecoms Insight (GTI) study, which interviewed 17,000 respondents across 30 countries, has found that once mobile users adopt MIM it overtakes other messaging tools to become the primary non-voice method of interacting – with potentially dramatic consequences for service and network providers’ revenue.

Among those who use MIM, it is the most used feature on their phone: 61% use it daily, compared to only 55% who use SMS daily and only 12% who use email on their mobile."

Exactly, all the networks have to have good easy to use data plans and things like this will be become very popular but at the moment, most uninformed people are under the impression that data use is mega expensive but for some operators this is actually true.

Well its cheaper than anyone can expect. I use it at most and what I simply do is to send a buzz to the the people I want to talk to and we meet online. Some of these services save offline messages.

I remember one time I was charged 0.12 cents in terms of US dollars after 8 hours of instant messaging. That was after I found a trick to use free gprs and the basic charges here cost the same amount for an sms. So with any trick you are at an advantage
