Can the P1i play AVI files smoothly?
Can you play the movies in landscape mode so you have bigger widescreen?
How many hours of playing time can it do before the battery drains?

...no, stay within 300-500 kbps on the video, some 128kbps on the sound, and 320x200 resolution, and it'll work fine. More than that should run well, too, even if it's not really necessary - but what you need to avoid is scaling down larger resolutions and using advanced codecs relying on hardware- filters and so on.

well i got no problem playing it on my p1.i used divx converter i didnt change the setting..using divx or coreplayer to play the avi.

I've found the above to be a great program for creating movies that will work with the P1, the settings i use are:
320x240
308 kbps video
96-128kbps audio
I've not had any problems so far.
