Howdy doodle guys

So I've had my P1i since January now. It's actually the first SE I've had that I'm not really very happy with, just so many little things that bug me. To top it off, over the past week it's decided to stop sending text messages.

At first, I would send a text and it said SMS sent. The messages were received by my friend or whoever. However, the phone put the sent message into the Outbox not the Sent Messages, so it kept trying to send it again every 3 minutes. The result? The recipient received the same message every three minutes, until I deleted it from the outbox. On one occasion a friend received a text 64 times... it was a kinda embarrassing message to receive 64 times as well... one of those ones where I plucked up the courage to send it. Ha.

So anyway, now when I send a text, it doesn't even do that - it just says SMS send failed, puts it in the Outbox, and nothing ever gets through to my friends/colleagues.

I've tried everything... SMS centre number, set to send via GSM not GPRS, O2 even sent me a new SIM card.

Any ideas, or is it time for SE repair centre? (I'm within 12 months and have insurance anyway but it's just the bloody hassle... and I'm going away on Friday and need it for the trip... arghh.)

Merci d'avance.

It's probably worth giving the phone a master reset before taking it in as it may well resolve the problem. Before doing so do make sure to backup everything on the phone's memory (contacts, sms, images etc that are stored on the phone itself) as everything on it will be lost otherwise!

I've had this issue over the past couple of days- spoke to 02 support.

Turn it back on, try a different handset, etc.

They reckon it's my sim card, but just charging the phone now in case it's a firmware issue.

I'm not sure how charging the phone will help with this kind of issue

Phones needs charging before I can update the firmware.

Hello by the way, where in Manchester are you from? I'm in Salford.

Hi, I`ve also been having the same problem with my P1i on O2 over the past few weeks. After many many hours speaking to O2 I have still not found a solution although i`ve thought that it was fixed on several occasions, it wasnt. I`ve now sent over 1500 txts in the past 2 weeks, of which i`ve been charged for(temporarily apparently) and only just worked out that the problem is outbox related. Some people have had the message 450 times!

I think that the phone is not receiving a 'success' signal from the network and so trys to send the message again, eventually it finds its way into sent. I`m going to try a master reset tonight provided that SE's update software behaves and i`ll let you know if it works or not.

I used the sony ericsson update service last week to completely format and restore the phone to its original settings. I`ve not had the problem again in the past few days so i`m guessing that everythings fixed. The only problem is that all data on the phone was lost. I did make a backup but i expect that restoring it will re-apply the corrupt settings again. Using activesync allowed me to restore my contacts though.
Hope that helps.

Have had the same problem for a few weeks, suddenly I couldn't send any text messages. Tried everything (checked settins, reset, new firmware, etc.) but nothing helped. Could receive messages OK, 'sms send failed' everytime I tried to send one.

As a last resort I tried sending the text using the full international phone number (+44077XXXXXXXX) and suddenly it's working again. I don't know if it was a corruption in my phone book or anything else, but at least it's working, maybe it will be useful for anyone.

Still strange that it stopped working for no apparent reason..... oh well.

I've had this issue since day one with the P1. It happens after one of two reasons. Either there are a lot of messages stored on the phone, 1000+ on inbox for example, or corruption with the messages program. Either way, it always fixes for me when I run SEUS. Make sure you back up though.
