> O2 MMS without GPRS
Bookmark topic
I got my phone in July, when MMS wasn't out on O2 so none of the settings was on my phone. I haven't signed up for GPRS and was wondering I could use MMS without it. I have tried using the GSM settings it basically finishes sending the MMS then it comes up the a message saying User Barred and then an MMS failed message. I doun't know why this is could someone please help. I have a Sony Ericsson T68i.
Thanks

You need GPRS to send MMS on O2.
Sorry
Call us up, we'll need to set it up but then you should be fine.

GPRS is payed for per KB of data sent, not how long you are connected. I guess I need GPRS for T-Mobile MMS to work too?

I would assume GPRS is needed for all MMS, simply because its a faster way of transmitting as opposed to GSM.
But then again I could be wrong and it could simply be a quirk of o2.

you can use GPRS and MMS together, but only WAP GPRS. You cannot surf HTML via GPRS as this requires access to gareway mobile.o2.co.uk. when you have MMS activated, it disables access to mobile.o2.co.uk
GPRS WAP can still be accessed via wap.o2.co.uk

The gprs aspect of MMS is automatically set up when you activate your sim for MMS by calling O2, O2 will ask you if you wish them to send the MMS settings to your handset. Your sim is currently not activated for MMS which is likely to be why you receive the user barred message. On your t68i you now need to ensure that your data mode is set to gsm and gprs. MMS over gprs on O2 is/will be charged on a fixed cost per message sent basis, this negates the need to subscribe to a costly gprs tariff ala tmobile.

FYI
The MMS tariff, at the moment, is looking to be 40p per message sent.
There are also going to be MMS Bolt-Ons:
MMS 25 and MMS 50.
The price of these temporarily escape me. I'll see if I can find the price at work and put it here.
Also, the date for total MMS integration between networks is hoped to be early Feb 2003, so I hear.
Strange that, its just after networks start charging for mms again
