Orange today announced a new agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to Orange customers in Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and Orange’s African markets later this year.

its because when Apple were going to introduce the phone to the UK. They had a look at all the networks, and they decided after investigating all the networks that O2 were the best ones for them. Which they are, since they have done a wonderful job with Apple and that Apple have got a multiyear exclusive agreement with O2 in the UK.
Regarding what plans orange would do. I persume it would be the same type of plans that orange are doing in France with the iphone.

is the iPhones just legal to one network or something within these countries?
Im sure 0range probaly offers better data packages abroad anyway,
it wouldn't be so good if it was on them within the UK "30MB Data"
iPhone would do better on "3" here as there data's cheaper then chips!
