> ASOCS introduces first software radio
Bookmark topic
"Software radios have been sort of the holy grail in mobile hardware for quite some time. A phone needs many chips to operate. It needs a modem to communicate with the network, it needs a processor to control that. That is at the absolute minimum. Most phones now day include Bluetooth, which requires another chip. Many others include GPS, WiFi, 3G and even Infrared, which all need a separate chip.
Many have tried to make a software radio, which would allow all these to be in one chip, which was programmable to perform whatever function you choose, and also many have failed. ASOCS delivers though, as they have figured it out, and it is available now. They have no factories, but some one will no doubt acquire this company and the technology in a matter of months, if not weeks.
Just imagine, you have yourself a phone on Sprint you love. You want to switch to AT&T. There is no way as they use different network technologies. Imagine though, you convert that CDMA/EV-DO device to GSM/HSPA. You take that 3G device, and upgrade it to 4G in the near future. Imagine your phone ships with Bluetooth, but you want GPS. This would all be possible with this invention. This technology will no doubt be deployed in the near future."-
