I am a currently English based user, and have a Canadian friend who I want to call or send Text messages to, but whenever I try to text or call him it fails and says 'Sending Failed; Would you like to save in Drafts?' in the case of texting. Is there something wrong with my phone, because I am dialling the 1 and 705 before the real number, and am frankly quite gobsmacked about what to do.

PS: I am quite new to the technical issues of Phones so please try to simplify the solution or questions

If you are sending over seas then you need to check with your proivider that you have internation calling from the uk activated.

Also you will need to insert the international code

eg

If there mobile no is 456 123 9874

then you will need to put
+1456 1239874

+ being the mobile prefix for dialing out side of the uk 1 being for canada

Also depending on wht network you are sending a text from and what nextwork your friend is on. You have to ensure that both networks do have an agreement to send and receive sms and calls to each other.

If you want to let me know i will try to help

And welcome to Esato

Ok this is where the problem may lie for sms
Virgin Canada doesnt use GSM.

Virgin uses Bell Mobility which uses a different technology which in a lot of cases are very different to what we use here in the uk and the rest of the world

That doesnt mean that it shouldnt work completely tho

You are able to send pic messages to the person Canada
Bell
Rogers
Tellus
Aliant
Sasktel
Virgin The Web
However these will all deliverd with a message on there phones saying they have a pic message and they need to go to hear to collect it.

I know that you said you entered a 1 in front of the number but did you put the + infront of the 1?

If you didnt then it wont work as no putting a + infront will cause the phone to not know what you are doing.

It worked! Thanks for your help, and sorry for the stupid question; I'm not very good with phones and my friends are just as useless as me; one once threw his phone at the wall because picture messages weren't working ^^ Anyway, thanks again

Im glad it worked and you are more than welcome.

I beleive that
Senidng a sms on o2 if you are on contract is 12p if you are on a tarriff of £35 or more. Or 16p on a tarriff of £3 or less.

If you have ITS (Internation Travel service) then it will be 12p

Pay as you go i beleive is 20p per sms.

It free for you to received a sms from any one in the world.

Hope this helps further.
