Can someone explain to me how you access the internet via WiFi, whilst making sure that you're not getting charged for it...

You see, on G900, it seems you must connect to wifi, and then go back to menu and enter the web browser...but what stops the phone trying to browse using 3g...which obvioulsy charges you.

How can you be sure you are surfing on wifi and not on 3g basically?

Cheers

Possibly, but i dnt know...i don't see how the phone knows whether you want to connect to wifi or 3g when you press internet button. ;/

Anyone?

Any p1 owners or g900 users?

If you already have a live Wi-Fi connection then your phone shouldn’t try to connect through anything else, it will only automatically connect through 3G or another connection type if you try to go online and you’re not already connected.

On my phone at least (Nokia 95 8gb) when you want to get online, an 'access point' menu appears. On the menu is a list of options that you can use to go online (i.e. 'Orange Internet). One of the options is called 'search for wlan'. When clicked upon, a further menu appears showing all the wlan access points that are located in the area (as well as a symbol to indicate if they are encrypted or not).
Thus, there are a number of safeguards that one must go through before going online. I presumed all phones operated in a (relatively) similar manner...
One final point, usually in the settings menu, there is an option that can ensure that you will always have to confirm the connection before going online.

On P1i you go to settings, connections, internet accounts, groups tab and here you prioritize the connections you have (whether wifi or 3G etc...)

cheers

ahh, so what happens if you just click the internet button? Does it connect to your prioritised connection type?
