I think that Ericsson and Sony going together is the best thing that could happen. Nokia was getting to big and sat on the market. Now that Ericsson and Sony are together they have the money to develop some more phones like T68

I suppose it's a good idea, cos they're both manufactures of gsm's so i think two brains are better than one...don't you?

I don't think Nokia are that fussed - Ericsson *had* to merge with someone because they were doing so badly - they are just cutting costs.

The only advantage to Sony and Ericsson merging is that they save on development costs.
Hopefully we get some benefits too.
Has anyone tried a Sony phone ? Is it's T9 faster and better than Ericsson's ? I bet it is. Hopefully that's one thing that will be inherited from Sony as Ericsson's must be the worst.

First of all, every fussion is a bad new for customers. The less manufactures, the less competitive market. That's not good for us.

I'm afraid of SonyEricsson becomes a new Nokia. Hey! I don't hate Nokia, but... Ericsson look for innovation, not for marketing (like Nokia). It's always the same: Macintosh-DOS, Nintendo 64-PlayStation, Ericsson-Nokia...

Ericsson was in the right way with their T-xx phones. Maybe don't need Sony.

However, Sony can improve Ericsson phones with (for example) Memory Stick tecnology and so on, so.. Welcome Sony, but don't forget everything Ericsson means.

Sony is very good at making consumer-products and electronics. And they're very good with sales/marketing.
Think about Playstation, walkman and so on.

Ericsson are good with new technologies, and building phones.

Some years ago Ericsson did exactly the same as Nokia,..e.g. didnt listing to the consumers,.. and look where that put them !
Thats why I dont believe. they will make the same mistakes again.

I do believe that Sonyericsson are a good company,..and yes, it was the right thing to do.

I also believe that both Sony and Ericsson made the right choices.

Hmm, one thing I have thought about, is the nametag on the phones. Some said, that they would come up with a new name,..wonder if that will happen.

Yeah i agree with Ilana! Competititon will decrease and this should increase the average price of the phones. But SE will have lower cost functions if they comobine their total outputs to one output. The will also save on R&D although those costs are not cash flows, it would not necessarliy be passed down to the consumer.

Overall, I think sonyericsson will be more expensive compared to the equivalent ericsson or sony mobile.

Market speculations suggest that sonyericsson may become the Nokia of old!

We think that for high end consumers (T68), this merger will be beneficial as they will make much improved phones that may have no close substitutes but of course higher prices. This should allow SE to maintain a good level of higher-spending high-end consumer

But for the low - medium user, this merge will mean more expensive prices and not necessarily better technology than present, but improved styling.

Overall i think we will all end up paying more per handset, not totally justified by better technology/pricing due to decreased competition.

We forcast excellent phones with very high price tags to appear from SE.
