"Despite the relative success of the iPod in Japan, the iPhone 3G isn't likely to get an immediate footing in the country, according to a new iSHARE study. Of the Japanese adults polled, 91 percent say they have no plans to buy the device when it becomes available on July 11th. Of the remaining nine percent, nearly all (8.9 percent of the total) said they planned to purchase the device. Slightly under half of these are users already signed up for SoftBank, the carrier picked for the initial Japanese launch."

Actually, 9% of the Japanese market is pretty good for one model of phone. Imagine if Apple had a full range of phones like SE or Nokia!

Mmm I remember posting in the 3G ipod thread, before this survey that the Japs wont be interested in those phone, and I guess I was right.

iphone relied so much on the hype it created, but once people realized what a piece of crap it is, it made them regret buying one
if the rumored specs of 3G iphone doesnt improve, im pretty sure that japanese people are not the only one who doesnt want a 3Giphone

I dont think you realise but Japan is the beta tester of the world so to speak. All functions trickle down from stuff they have had for years. So I think its a kick in the teeth for Apple when people are shunning their baby.
