Japanese company offers ringtones for dogs

Tokyo-based interactive content provider Dwango announced today the start of a download service of a very special kind. Now Japanese cell phone owners are able to get ringtones that are only audible to dogs.

The service is dubbed Inu ni shika kikoenai chakushinon (ringtones only dogs can hear). Dwango says their idea is absolutely groundbreaking.

Downloads are free for subscribers of the dwango.jp tori houdai (download flatrate) service, which is only available on DoCoMo’s proprietary mobile web system imode.

Truly a bizarre idea, even by Japanese standards. By the way, Dwango is listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

And the point of having your dog hear your phone and not you is...?

Those crazy Japanese... How did this ever get through the idea stage, then accepted by people in charge, then through the development stage, all the way to being sold, without someone thinking "wait a minute, this is stupid."?

Haven't you heard?

Japanese dogs have there own mobile phones now.

In fact there was new legislation recently in Japan whereby they had to be turned off at night as the new trendy dogs with these new mobiles were up all night barking and growling to their long-distance dog friends, keeping everyone up.

Of course there was a bit of a language barrier when the dogs had to call for technical support.

So they had to employ specially trained hounds in a call centre who could send out MMS settings and block phones and such.

Hahaha, some people would believe that if you told them. The Japanese have such crazy ideas that anything is possible.

Would be good for hearing dogs for the deaf when people use the phone for text and email services. They're not as stupid as the raw fish diet suggests.

As far as I see it keeping a dog for security is much better and cheaper than hiring a watchman. As for these additional ringtones its just an additional useless expense. These people can make anything and obt for us to buy. The idear of having handsets for dogs is just the craziest I have ever heard of.

I would have thought they could just stick their phone on vibrate so they'd feel when they get a text or email...
