I'm tired of sites like I mentioned in my subject, they rely on the community to supply (upload) them with the goods, for free. So they resell it later on. What a joke. What ever happened to sharing, they should ask for donations if the site needs money or put up ads, this is worst way and I really hope those who supply them with content will stop doing it.

and the reason why they charge? everytime someone downloads off their site they use bandwidth which costs them money... having just ads and donations wouldnt secure enough money so they charge for downloading...
Simply put.... if u dont like, dont pay to use and find somewhere else....

That is not the point I'm trying to make.
There are more than enough un-metered or very cheap hosting packages available with more than enough bandwidth. For example; Godaddy.com hosting, their premium plan has 300GB storage and 3000GB monthly traffic, for as little as 8$ a month. So all a site owner needs is around 100$ a year via donations or ads, which is more than doable. And if 300GB storage or 3000GB traffic is not enough the site owner can buy a second package. They don't need any hardware. Also there is dedicated hosting where one can get un-metered traffic and upto 500GB space for a small price too, and if that also is not enough put up your own server.
I myself have several co-located boxes for clients and some have un-metered 100mbit connections for a little as 60$ a month. You can't tell me that a site with 1000's of users can't raise 1000$+ via advertisements on a yearly basis.
Anyways, my point is that it seems to be a business model to do this in the phone community. I remember "back in the day" when I had some Motorola phones the modding community was large and nobody charged any money for anything anywhere. The SE community seems to try and make money where possible. I find that a pity, I just wish others would also see it that way and don't think like above poster.
Maybe when time permits I will allocate some rackspace and chuck in a box and set up my own free for all SE site where one can dump files, discuss and download. And hopefully get some real community spirit going. I'm sure people might be willing to donate a small fee to keep the site running without banners or pay areas.

hmm.. odd all the sites I get content for my mobile from are free. cant understand why anyone would pay for content that can get free (themes, games, mp3s, apps etc.) guess am misunderstanding this post.

i agree, but where in the community r they getting the firmwares? i am a quite capable internet user, and i searched for a week for free firmwares for my w580i, and eventually broke down and paid topsony. (the firmwares i purchased are now available on my e-snips page) the firmwares i got from share2flash were corrupt (i am suspicious that the corrupt files were intentional, conspiracy anyone??? lol)
I guess i am trying to say that i kinda doubt they get the firms for free from the community, otherwise they would be available elsewhere.
