Hi All,

i currently have a computer that will not display and video output whatsoever. the specs are : a gigabyte ga-7n400L with an AMD athlon xp 3200 processor, 512mb crucial ram, 160gb hdd and a dvd writer.

since the power supply broke (after a few power cuts and it was running through a surge protector at the time), i have not managed to get the post screen up at all even though the cpu fan still spins and ram led lights up

so far i have:

changed the psu for a 400w one (original was 500w)
changed the graphics card with a known working one
removed the usb expansion card and creative sound card
unplugged the hdd and dvd drive
taken out and reinserted the ram
changed the power lead

unfortunately, i do not have another stick of ddr ram to test the machine with. i have just removed the bios battery to see if that helps but i think the thing has had it already

has anyone got any suggestions on what i can do to see if i can get it working?

thanks in advance!

If it was plugged into a surge protector, they are normally insured for any electrical damage try and claim on that or find out if it covers, it should normally.

@themarques

ive tried that already, but the company refused to pay up as the light on the top of the protector hadn't turned black

Hum,

Try taking the lil battery out and switching the little clip to pins 2-3, then switch them back to 1-2 and put the battery back in and try, if not sounds like the mobo may be dead if it's not even posting.

ive taken the battery out, but cant see any jumpers around it, but thats me probably not looking hard enough

anyway ill put the battery back in after top gear finishes and see if it will power up otherwise ill strip it down and rebuild it from scratch tomorrow

Elrobin is right, if it won't post after swapping out then it's pretty much got to be either the motherboard's discreet components, the north / south bridges or the CPU.
Whichever way, you're looking at a new motherboard and CPU combo

Unfortunately motherboard would be my bet as well, difficult to test but you've eliminated just about everything else.

i was thinking about getting a new computer just before it blew up and i promised my dad that he could have it when i upgraded it. i now have a new computer but my dad keeps asking me if i can get it working and its getting rather annoying now.

i would swap the motherboard over, but the only other amd socket a mobo i have wont post either.

thanks for all the replies so far
