It seems I have acquired a prototype W890 from someone on Ebay. In fact if I Master Reset the phone, it's name shows up as T124i and now W890i. I got the phone and tried to firmware flash using SEUS but the phone will not enter flash mode while holding down C and connecting USB cable. I contacted SE customer support and after going through several questions, this phone does not have an IMEI sticker on the inside, which seemed like a really bad sign. The SE rep explained how to get the IMEI number from the menu system. I read it to him and he thought the number was unusual. He put me on hold a moment, came back and explained the bad news to me. He said the W890 phone I have is a prototype model. And that's possibly the reason why I cannot flash the firmware.

The current firmware version on this prototype is 1200-9164 R1DA016 071016

I really want to try and flash the firmware but am hampered by the fact that I cannot get the phone to enter flashing mode to begin with. If anyone has any ideas or advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.

The reason I want to flash the firmware is because sometimes using the phone's menus, an error message pops up saying the menu cannot be displayed due to a bad file. But then if I click OK, it continues anyway. The other problem is the phone has a lot of heavy static when on a call. I don't know why this is. I'd love some advice to fix this. I am on the AT&T network (850/1900) in NYC, US.

XS does not support prototypes or "brown" phones as SE call them, retail ones are called "red". I'm sorry to say there's probaly no easy way to flash it. Been there, tried that with a "brown" a K770 I had. The guys over at SE-NSE forum tried to helped me in every way they could think of, I really appreciate their efforts. But after a couple of months of trying, I gave up and bought myself a new "red" phone. If you do a search for: erom brown, prototype, etc over at SE-NSE, you will get more info.

@Robocub

usually Prototype phones do not have much support. Especially the online flash softwares. I would suggest you to check out Setool. Another problem is Setool is only for professionals and not meant for end users as they cost around 220-220 euro.

To All, I appreciate all your replies. Thank you. I'd be willing to try all the consumer level tools, but as I mentioned in my post, the phone will not enter flashing mode by holding down the C key as you plug in the data cable. That's the big sticking point. Oh well. I will take a look over at the other forums and see if there's any info. Thanks again everyone!

I don't know about prototypes, but when we are at brown phones, I have tried CID36 brown W800 and it was supported by XS++... Though I needed to connect the usb cable 2 times (2 connects) to get the "Ready for Operation" message... Anyway you should be able to update your phone by flashing it's software with some of the online flashing cilents like davinci or etc... (IF they support brown phones or prorotypes)...
