With endless anticipation and excitement I tore open the packaging to behold my new w910i.... then... tried to turn it on.
The screen shows some signs of life and the keys light up and it gives a short burst of vibration.... then dies. It does this routine 3-5 times and then shuts up entirely. I have tried charging it for the recommended 2.5 hours.. more than that actually. I tried using the car charger I got free. Nothing changes this behavior. I tried taking out the memory card.
Is this a common problem? does it have a solution beyond returning? Does it have anything to do with me being in the US?
Btw, I did notice the ever so slight wiggle in the slider and checked behind the battery... its 07w41..... are all red ones from 07? Should I just send it back?

You can "mess" with the phone firmware even if the phone is not turning on... Flashing the firmware doesn't require turning on the phone. That job is done with the phone turned off + connected to PC.
Anyway the only way to flash the W910 firmware at this moment is the totalgsm online client (which is not free of course) but cheap and works good with DB3150 platform

phones as your W910

I am set upon getting a new w910i. I have already arranged for a return of the fone i have now.
Problem is... they dont get a new shipment of w910's till friday... i'm not settling for anything other than a red one... and I need it in my hand friday afternoon.
Now i just need to make sure i don't get a dud again somewhere else. I see some offers with 2gb memory. Did sony repackage the w910i with 2gb after fixing some bugs or does that have nothing to do with it?
Any other advice as to getting a post-bug-period w910?

Well W910 bugs will be fixed with firmware updates indeed. But no one knows WHEN the new firmwares are going to arrive... Anyway, about the 2gb repackaging from

, the same case was with the P1, it started to sell with 512MB card and 2 weeks ago I bought it with 1GB card

No, it was slider and built quality that was solved after that date.
the software bugs depend on the firm
