Could some of fellow Esatonians who are on Orange (in the UK or elsewhere ), preferably but not obligatorily, T650i users, please respond to the following questions:

- did your T650i come with an Orange sticker or the sticker is put only on those models that originally have a one that gets replaced by Orange?
- what is the extent of Orange branding software-wise - can it be neutralized by turning off some options or debranding is the only cure?
- does branding always involve network lock on PAYG?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Are operator-branded phones in general and those on Orange in particular delivered in the original designer packaging or they come in different boxes chosen by the operators?

All Orange phones are debranded and quite heavy too.

They are known for removing features that dont fit into there network and replacing them with there own.

The icons on the main screen normaly look like a child has drawn them.

All Orange branded phones are network locked to Orange only.

Im not on Orange, (Used to be) but i know that they are still heavy branded

Hope this helps

Thanks darrengf,

Luckily, however gruesome, branding can be removed. What ticks me off is the image of say the T650i (as I'm thinking of getting one) with an operator sicker on it that would effectively ruin its exceptionally good looks.

I hope someone can confirm that the T650i is spared from that eyesore intervention on the housing at least if its insides have been ravaged by software branding.

Cheers!

I hate orange phones branding... Why the hell they brand the housing too. They ruin such beautiful phones. You know the orange color doesn't look great with some colors... Anyway software branding of the T650 can be removed by flashing the phone with Generic firmware, which can be found on www.4shared.com for free and flashed to the phone by folowing this tutorial:

@strizlow800

I was kind of hoping that the models on which did not put any stickers, like the T650 are left intact, but apparently, these hopes were unfounded
unless someone can prove otherwise.

Cheers!

Well I don't know 100% sure if the T650 has orange sticker on it, but I'm pretty sure you can find the generic housing parts for T650 on www.cnn.cn so in case you buy a orange branded T650 with sticker, you can get yourself genuine housing to completely debrand the phone (hardware and software)

@strizlow800,

A good idea that has crossed my mind. I'm afraid, though, that the housings offered by http://www.cnn.cn look genuine at best, but are far from being true OEMs.

@aw614

I couldn't agree more...

Cheers!

I can 't help re t650i in particular.

However, the talk of late has been how the latest Orange phones are increasinlgy appearing with less operator branding. This certainly applies to the Nokia n series (n82 and n95 8gb).

This was discussed earlier today in a related post...

Wow, I have not heard of an Orange Branded T650... unless its from France or something. Orange UK didnt release this handset! Anyways, it seems that brnading might be a dieing issue with Orange. The C902 is still being shipped generic and unlocked. We havent received a new release after this model (HTC Diamond is next) so will be interesting to see if this has branding on it.
