Motorola is likely to fall to fifth place in world cellphone marketshare based on shipment estimates allegedly leaked from companies involved in making the phones in Taiwan. They now predict that the American phone creator will have shipped a relatively low 22 million to 23 million phones in its spring quarter. The number would drop Motorola from fourth to fifth place and give it just 7.3 percent of the market while Sony Ericsson would take over the new spot, climbing to exactly eight percent.

Nokia, Samsung, and LG are believed to retain control of the top three spots, holding 40 percent, 18 percent, and 9.3 percent respectively.

I also hope so, it would be very sad to see a company disappear from the mobile phone market, which was already manufacturing mobile communication devices (for the military, fire brigade, police, etc ), when companies like Samsung and LG probably didn't even exist.

more ironic....big names like nokia/ motorola/ sonyericsson also using parts made by samsung and samsung/ LG got phone using symbian or ericsson mobile platform yet they are at the top ranking under nokia

it shows they have a good marketing and planning strategy while the old boy living in their legacy failed to reinvent themselve.

what they need is some daring marketing mastermind...but i only see if steve jobs interested on Motorola...else it just going to be unavoided to see the company continue to slip even it have engineers they have produced iconic stuff many many years back.

i think it could be possible for microsoft to buy out this company, n give it a boost perhaps? by doing so their windows mobile might also get popular.

Ctrl Alt Delete buttons just wouldn't look right on phones.

well i for one dont agree, yes in the past moto phones have been a nightmare as regards freezing, switching off on there own accord, major software problems etc...in fact i swore i'd never buy another moto phone again!.....until the ROKR E8 which i got today and changed my opinion instantly! to download a full album in under a minute is just flipping great! and sooooo easy with windows media player, tonight i downloaded 15 albums and so fast with no messing about, sound quality is very good in fact better than some of the walkman phones ive had! 10/10 for motorola....just hope they can keep it up and get up there like they use to be!
