What will I lose by doing it?
What sort of battery-life extension, if any, will there be?

4G ??? Well that's not possible if you don't live some years in the future.
I think you mean 3G. You will loose speedy internet and video calls but you will gain more battery life. It depends on the phone how much battery you will save through disabling 3G.

It was a typo, obviously.
How much batt. life can I look forward to, as I don't vid-call/surf with it anyway?
Right now the battery is struggling to last two days, which means I end up charging every night - and I only have it a few weeks!

Depends on how good/bad 3G reception is where you live.
When 3G reception isn't very good and the phone really has to "struggle", as you 're saying, to keep up the connection, disabling 3G can double the standby-time.

Well, thanks - I'm giving it a go.
It seems to on/off depending on what room of the house I'm in, so I guess that's bad...

Dunno, where you live and which network you're on, though , hope you don't have network "3" in the UK, as they only have 3G....

o2 Ireland.
Got a bit of a scare when I did it first, "Unable to find network" was displayed on the root screen, but it only lasted a second.
Sent myself a text and it worked, so I guess I'm good to go.

You could also get a much better signal if you're living in an area with poor 3G reception.
