i`m looking to buy a digital slr as i am fed up with point and shoot cameras, After taking advice from a jessops employee i have narrowed my choices down to a Sony Alpha A200 or the Canon eos 450d.
Anybody got any of these cameras and can give me advice pro`s and cons appreciated.

Personally, I don't think Sony are quite there yet in picture sharpness and quality when you compare them to Nikon and Canon. Funny when they actually are the ones making the sensors for the two.
So, I think you'd be better off with the Canon on this one. I'm using the Nikon D200 right now after having used the Canon in two of their editions, ie, the EOS 250D and later the EOS 350D. Also, like Dicky points out you might wan to wait for the 1000D if you're not in a rush.

buying dslr is just the beginning, you need to think of lenses too. canon has wide variety of lenses when compared to sony. 450d is the best in its class.
200 has sensor-shift image stabilization, where 450d has lens based stabilization.
450d has live view and 12mp sensor, where as 200 has no live view and its has 10mp sensor
450d is best for low light performance and has remote capture support. quality of the 450d pics are better than 200
200 has best battery performance.
i don't think sony's 200 and 450d are in same league, perhaps it can be compared to canon 1000d

After reading a review on budget slr's in Digital Photo i have decided to go for the Sony a200, it came top in their test's beating the Canon 400d Nikon d60 and Pentax k200d amongst others. I know it's not the best but it's the best for i want
